Mini Swede Swing Weekend

A razzle dazzle weekend in Ghent...

BANDS

Friday: Bigband 't Mouvement

We are very happy and proud to have nothing less than this amazing talent from our own city, led by Marie Anne Standaert: our very own Ghent based bigband 'T Mouvement.  Just like in the old days, they will make your feet flop, and your heart pop.
't Mouvement was founded in 2008 under the direction of bandleader and trumpet player Marie – Anne Standaert,  also known from The Hop sh Bam Connection.
Plenty of horns : 5 trumpets, 5 trombones, 6 saxophones, kept together by a steaming rhythm section of bass, piano, guitar and drums. They know how to put the dancefloor on fire, with the classics of for example Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson, Gene Krupa, but they also like to do some swinging experiments for dancers, with tunes form Charles Mingus or Thelonious Monk.
A bunch of these musicians have been spotted on the dancefloor too, as lindy hoppers themselves !  When you hear and see this band performing, you feel the swing, and above all the friendship, the love for jazzmusic, and the motiviation and the respect, for eachother, for the music and for the audience ...
T Mouvement Loves Jazzzzzzzzzzzzz

Saturday: Hornsgatan Ramblers

Saturday night will be smokin' hot, cause we're inviting the Hornsgatan Ramblers to set the place on fire!

Hornsgatan Ramblers concists of swing dancers. One day they decided that they wanted to do more than just dance to the music, so they started playing it. Everything they do has the spice of the more or less legal ballrooms of New York in the thirties and forties – mixed with a dose of street jazz.

Several of the band members dance in renowned swing dance companies Harlem Hot Shots and Midnight Rounders. Some of them teach swing dancing, and have won and judged numerous dance contests all over the world. The name comes from a street in the neighbourhood in Stockholm where most members work and live.

DJ's

DJ Kris

Kris has been collecting music for about 20 years. But the real interest in swing, jazz & blues and it’s history came with discovering and dancing the Lindy Hop. That really made Kris dig deeper in the fascinating world of swing music.

Kris started his DJ career about 6 years ago at local events in Gent (Belgium) where he also was a dance teacher in the Lindy Hop scene. DJ’ing and dancing brought him to several places in Europe, like Harlem Festival, Prague Spring Swing Festival, Lindy Shock, Herräng Dance Camp, Snowball, ESDC, Cirque du Solo, Smokey Feet Festival, Crazy Swing Camp and his “home event” Gentse Hoppers Exchange.

Kris loves trying to build up the energy on the floor or keeping itintimate with the best of slow drag. Creating the biggest possible fun for feet and soul, that’s what he aims for :)
